Book four in the Goat Hill Series

Out of the Ashes

Jason Conti has grown into a confident, strong-willed but embittered teenager. Over the past three years he has witnessed the worst of human nature and it’s taking its toll. Unfortunately for Jason, he isn’t like other fourteen-year-old boys: his feet aren't planted firmly on this physical world, and it's his connection to the other side that attracts the spirits of the lost, and their tormentors, to his door.

The moment the sister of Tranmere's newest policeman arrives outside St Luke's High School, Jason's life takes another dangerous turn. Something evil from this girl's tragic past has returned to seek vengeance. Rebecca Fields recently moved to Tranmere to live with her older brother after her grandmother and legal guardian passed away. Sadly, she has lived without her parent's love for the past seven years after they were mercilessly murdered in a house fire. And now at the age of seventeen, almost half her life has been lived withdrawn from the world; partly due to her mental health, and partly due to her overprotective brother.

Constable Mark Fields appears to be an ordinary — albeit angry — policeman; however, he harbours a secret that weighs heavily upon him. For Mark, the fire that killed his parents took more from him than most are aware.

During winter, house fires are common, especially in the poorest part of town — desperate people do desperate things to keep warm. However, this winter, it's not the temperature behind the reason Tranmere's houses are burning: a man is seeking retribution at the end of a flame, and for those on his kill list, their end will not be one without terror.

Fortunately, this Devil is not the only one drawn back by the echoes from a distant time. Victoria doesn’t remember much of her death and the years since, but a luminescent light emanating across the veil has given her hope. Jason Conti is the key to ending her killer's rampage and bring a modicum of peace to those trapped by their shared but tragic past.
